ukiyoe means " picture of secular world".One kind of Japanese printing based on the carved woody board and color ink in each stages of printing processes.
Many famous Japanese masters worked in Edo age ( about 17-19th century ).And many ukiyoe printings were brought out from Japan to United States or Europe in Meiji Age( about 19th century).
This exhibision in Shoto museum is nice because of low price and high level line up ,and I felt elegance of Japanese ancient culture.Hirosige became my favorite more than Hokusai today.His works are artistic.On the other hand,Hokusai makes us feel strict craftsmanship.
